How To Organise Your Small Kitchen

Modern houses tend to have a smaller kitchen. This means that all cabinets and shelves need to work well for you. Your storage needs to be maximised to perfection so you can get the most out of the storage you have available. Here at PPM Interiors, we are kitchen designers and installers. We have loads of great kitchen storage ideas to help you organise your small kitchen. In this blog post we share our top tips on how to organise your small kitchen.

The first thing you need to do is declutter. There will be things in your cupboard that aren’t used, have been forgotten about, or are worryingly out of date. Check the expiry dates and get rid of things that are out of date. If you have food items in date but you won’t eat them, why not donate them to the local foodbank?

Be strict and thorough. Do you really need 45 mugs, 12 wooden spoons and 6 pairs of scissors? If not, then get rid. There is no need to use your important and limited storage space on items that you really don’t use or need.

Think about ‘zones’ for your kitchen. What are the things that you use and where do they need to be. For example, have a zone for ingredients. This includes cereals, baking goods, main meal items and more. You’ll need a drinks zone where you can find tea, coffee, fruit juice, glasses and mugs. Do you need a zone for food preparation tools such as knives, chopping boards, spoons and more? Perhaps you need a zone for oven trays and baking tins, then another zone for storage containers.

By storing similar items together, you will have a more organised kitchen that is easier to use. Having the items that you use more regularly at the front of these ‘zones’ will help too. Think about putting things at eye heigh or storage coming out to you, instead of you leaning in. This will help make using your smaller kitchen easier.
